Our History

“Where there is no vision, the people perish...” (Proverbs 29:18)

Bishop Charles E. Johnson, Pastor of the Greater Morning Star Pentecostal Church in Washington, DC, now Greater Morning Star Apostolic Ministries, Inc., had a vision to start a church in Annapolis, Maryland. The Lord placed on his heart to place Elder Ellis Houston and Missionary Marion Houston in Annapolis to carry out the vision.

Thereafter, Elder Houston began looking for land to hold tent revivals. The owner of a radio broadcast wanted to charge $1500.00 dollars for use of his land; however, the Lord had a ram in the bush! Instead, Elder Houston was blessed with finding a location on Forest Drive, free of charge which was owned by Mr. Joe Warton. Mr. Warton felt it was an honor to have the tent revival on his land. The tent revival was held May 14-17, 1997. As a result, four souls were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ during the revival.

The next step was to find a building to hold services. A building was found on George Avenue in Annapolis where the church is currently located. This was to be the first home of the Greater Morning Star Pentecostal Church #3. Since the building had to be inspected first, services could not be held in the new building as of yet. However, this did not stop church services from continuing. Services began outside of the Bowman Court complex, a housing community in Annapolis. Sunday School was even held in the Laundromat. The first sermon on the streets of Annapolis was entitled, “Adam, Where Art Thou?”, preached by Pastor Houston.

Pastor Houston and First Lady Houston were later blessed with many other souls who shared the vision for Annapolis. Deacon James Johnson and Evangelist Helen Johnson, along with their family were sent by the Lord to GMSPC#3 to the help the ministry. Also, the late Minister Michael Flemister was one of the first laborers sent to help Greater Morning Star #3. Later, other ministers and members joined the GMSPC#3 church family.

Throughout the twelve years of this ministry, numerous souls have been baptized in Jesus name and filled with the Holy Ghost. Numerous street witnessing services have been held throughout the communities of Annapolis where they continue to be held during the summer months. These services have won many souls to Christ. In addition, the ministry has held all-night shut-in services on a quarterly basis to strengthen the Saints of the Lord.

Under the leadership of Pastor Houston, an Administrative Board was established and the church attained its 501c3 status and is now incorporated. Another accomplished goal was the inception of the Apostolic Explosion. This is an annual event that was envisioned by the Pastor.  In 1999, the Starlite Food Bank was established for those in need to receive food as well as a word from God.  The Christian Hope House for the Youth CDC established in 2008 is up and running providing shelter, counseling and much more to the Annapolis area. Greater Morning Star #3 is currently striving hard in the Lord to reach a well needed goal of a new edifice. Further, the church has been successful with purchasing church vans, musical equipment, a sound system, as well as computers. Future goals include continuing a radio broadcast ministry, a television broadcast, and most importantly, winning more souls to the Lord Jesus Christ.

As a part of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW) organization, Greater Morning Star #3 is truly blessed to have faithful servants of the Lord who are ushers, deacons, musicians, singers, directors and missionaries. Commitments of the Saints through Jesus keep the vision moving forward.

Pastor’s vision is plain; win souls for Jesus!...“write the vision and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readith it”. (Habakkuk 2:2) GMSPC#3 is on a mission. We are taking the city of Annapolis for Jesus! Where there is unity, there is strength.
